December 06 2017

December of the year 2017 will be dedicated to Colombia, in support of its efforts to restore peace and reconciliation.

A Research and Training Institute will be developed in the Diocese of Tibú.

The Dominican Order in the world declares that it will establish one month for peace among its orders, and calls on all natural persons, private and public entities of the whole world to join this project.

"The month of December of this year, 2017 will be for Colombia, in response to the call that several Dominican sisters and brothers committed to the harsh reality of the country and in support of the implementation of the Peace Accords, have inspired the establishment of Dominican Month by La Paz ", said Bruno Cadoré, teacher of the Order.

The decision was born at a time when the union of forces that are in solidarity and work in order to vindicate this virtue in a world where the threat of war is the growing trend is required. Dominicans have been characterized as being advocates of Peace and have developed actions in favor of their claim in different parts of the world. In Colombia, for times they have been involved accompanying the affected communities, being those of the territory of Catatumbo one of them.

This year's campaign begins on December 1st and will develop the following activities:

Prayer

Each entity is asked to organize at least one Vigil of Prayer and Solemn Eucharist for Peace and Reconciliation in Colombia, it can be organized in a creative way raising awareness about the peace process in Colombia and how it relates to the local reality.
Preaching

The focus on peace in Colombia is incorporated in the ordinary Dominican preaching of Advent.

Bank of artistic expressions

All artists are invited to contribute to the process of reconciliation through three modalities:

Offer a proposal of artistic order to be sent to Colombia and be exhibited in a space of solidarity.

Offer an artistic proposal to be placed in local symbolic spaces in the country of origin to raise local and global awareness of the need for peace and reconciliation.

Offer a training cycle in Colombia to stimulate and train Dominicans and local staff in the development of artistic skills that can contribute to peace and reconciliation.

Collection and financial contribution

In order to support the establishment of a Network of Pacificultores, constituted by people who promote the culture of peace in Catatumbo, the contribution will be destined to:

Develop a Research and Training Institute in the Diocese of Tibú that can train members of local churches and communities in skills in order to train actors of peace in the region.

Produce educational resources and other materials that can help the development of a culture of peace.

Promote meaningful peacebuilding actions. Contact the local Colombian Embassy

Ensure that the local Colombian embassy is informed about the Order's approach in solidarity with the Colombian Peace Process.

Invite the ambassador and other embassy officials to participate in any organized activity.

The embassy is encouraged to address the concerns raised by Dominicans in Colombia.
